Here is the best ways to convert videotapes into digital format. Digitizing VHS, DVD, and other VCR home videos are sometime hard to do. Most computer software maybe complicated to install, run, and use on your computer. Most of us have old VHS, Mini Disc, DVD, or VCR home videos that have been collecting dust in the back of the closet for years. Breathing new life into these home movies is one of the most common reasons people use the Newelectronx HD PVR. This article will answer basic questions about converting your VHS tapes, DVR, VCR tapes, and DVD to Newelectronx HD PVR digital data for use on your hard drive, microSD card, microSDHC, or any other form of memory. For example, how does it work?
To transfer a home VHS movie, home personal recording your family from DVD, home VCR video, or anything to a Newelectronx HD PVR, the movie must be transferred from the VHS analog tape, DVD disc, or VCR tape to the Newelectronx HD PVR. Yes, that is correct to the HD PVR, no computer is needed. Using just the HD PVR is like using a VCR and should take allot of the complication out of it. The VHS, VCR, DVD movie will be enhanced to digital video on the Newelectronx HD PVR. There you can use key editing features like renaming, copying, etc. If you so decide then you can connect the Newelectronx HD PVR to your computer. Again, this is not necessary, but an option. On the computer you can further tweak the movie or video to perfection. Once polished you can place or burn the final version to a memory card and play it on your iphone, droid, or smart windows phone. Again, you can copy directly from the HD PVR to your mobile phone, iphone, droid, memory card, external hard drive, or whatever your heart desires.
Normally you would need video editing hardware and a capturing device to digitize your homemade videos or similar equipment to copy your VHS tapes, VCR tapes, DVD, Mini Discs, etc. But the Newelectronx HD PVR has it all built into a small box. All you need to do is plug the colored wires from your video source (video player or movie camera) into the HD PVR. You can optionally plug another set wires into your TV. The other wires go to the back or front of your TV (video input source). No video capture card, usb port, or firewire port necessary. Just your video source device (movie camera, DVD player, VCR player, VHS player, etc) and the Newelectronx HD PVR.
Sorry for mentioning video capture devices. Do you know what video capturing tools are? If not then I will go over them quickly. Normally if you want to copy your VHS, VCR, DVR, or mini camera you will need a computer and a video capturing card. The Newelectronx HD PVR is great, because it replaces both of these and a fraction of the cost. In order to use a computer, your computer must have a video capture card (or a similar device) that can capture or convert the analog video signal from the VHS tape, VCR tape, DVR, camera, etc to a digital format.
An External Capture Device is a small box or cable that sits between your DVR, DVD, VCR tape, or VHS tape player and your computer. Connecting data cords run to your DVD, DVR, VCR tape, VHS tape player, through the box, then to a USB port or FireWire port on your computer. This box allows you to capture VHS video without adding a video capture card inside your computer. These devices cost from $50 to $150 .
There are options for capturing and digitizing video like Video Capture Card records (captures) and converts (digitizes) the video. Capture cards cost from $100 to $10,000.
I'll assume you understand how to use your camcorder, VHS player, VCR player, other stuff and the connecting wires that come with it. Below, I'll focus on the Newelectronx HD PVR hardware to help you make a successful copy from VHS, DVD, and movie camera to the Newelectronx HD PVR. Again, there is no need to worry about the complication that comes with using a computer like computer memory, speed, or computer disc space – the Newelectronx HD PVR takes care of this all in a small box that is no bigger than hand a ream paper.
On a computer video copying is a power-hungry task. The more memory your computer has and the faster your CPU is, the quicker and easier the job will be. You would normally need a computer with at least a 2.8GHZ CPU and at least 512MB of RAM, but with the small Newelectronx HD PVR – you can do all of this from pressing one button. The record button and all from a small box without worrying about memory speed and all of that.
Movies captured from VHS, VCR, DVD, DVR are stored on the HD PVR hard drive during copying. The HD PVR can copy to any memory type – external hard drive, microSD cards, flash drives, thumb drives so need to worry about the computer hogging your hard drive space. The Newelectronx HD PVR gives you plenty of options for hard drive space and memory usage. To manage this you can order the HD PVR with plenty of internal hard drive or you can install your own hard drive or you can use external memory or external hard drive. This will give you all the ample disc space you need – from at least 1mb to 300GB to 1 terabit of storage – all on one small easy to use machine. External hard drives are inexpensive; you may consider buying a large one just for video copying.
The HD PVR replaced my DVD Burner because all media is burned directly to a hard drive or memory. Unlike CD burners or DVD burners that have only one format, the HD PVR burners and HD PVR memory writer allows many formats, DVD-R and DVD+R is not needed anymore. Video editing software is not needed anymore, but maybe used. You can burn hours of family pictures, movies, home videos, and more to both hard drive and memory. No need to waste time with DVD burner compatibilities with all DVD discs. Forget about checking the specifications on both your DVD burner and your DVD discs to be sure they are compatible. Just connect the HD PVR and press record.
If you plan to watch your finished HD PVR movie from a DVD, DVR, VCR, or VHS on the HD PVR player. Then connect the Newelectronx HD PVR to a television, I suggest using the free cables that came with the HD PVR to connect it to your TV.
So how does it all work? I will use a VHS since most of us know exactly how to use that sort of technology. You can apply the same connections to your DVD, DVR, mini camera or whatever.
1. Connect the red, white, and yellow wires that came with the HD PVR to the back of your VHS from the output side.
2. Connect those same colored wires to your input on the Newelectronx HD PVR. The yellow connects to CVBS in the AV IN box and red and white wire connect to the red and white colored ports.
3. Now connect the television to your HD PVR. You can connect a high definition TV HDTV or standard TV. Since most of us may still have standard TVs then I will explain them first. Connect the red, white, yellow wire from the rear of the HD PVR labeled CVBS, R, L output. Connect the other end of the wires to the input on your TV.
4. For HDTV owners connect the Y, Pb/Cb, Pr/Cr wires to your HDTV on the component input side wire port inputs. Connect the red and white sound wires to your sound input on your TV.
5. Press play on your VHS and then please record on your HD PVR. That’s pretty much it.
This will record directly to an internal drive if you want to record to external memory like an external hard drive, flash drive, microSD card, or other memory take a look at this.
Unlike any other HD PVR recording device – you can use memory card for additional storage space. Newelectronx HD PVR devices supports microSD, flash memory, microSDHC memory, external hard drives, and other memory cards. You can easily insert and use memory card to store more media files like photos, videos and other type of files on your HD PVR device.
Insert memory card in the Newelectronx HD PVR
1. On the front cover there is a memory card slot or rather about 3 memory card slot.
2. Now insert memory card with the gold-colored contacts facing to the right.
3. Then push memory card in the memory card slot until it locks in place.
You can also connect the Newelectronx HD PVR to a video game console like a playstation ps3, Nintendo wii, or xbox 360, but I’ll talk about that in another tutorial article.
If you want to do advanced video edition on your HD PVR movies directly on the HD PVR hard drive then you can use video editing software. You can compare video editing software features, strengths, and weaknesses. But if you're not into spicing up your video with transitions, sound effects, backgrounds, voice-overs, and animations, then editing software is not needed. In fact the HD PVR can add sound to pictures without editing software. I will talk about that in another article.
